Interest Cards

A set of 65 unique interest cards developed to facilitate meaningful conversations with people about their interests and passions in life.  Developed by Occupational Therapist, presenter and author Joanne Sherring.

Used by therapists, coaches, teachers, disability workers and a range of other allied health professionals, the cards help identify strong interests in a persons life.

The set includes: 50 Interest Cards and 15 Discussion Cards.

Each interest card has a colourful and humorous animal image on the front.  On the back is a list of examples for that interest area. Interest areas include social media, family, activities, individual fitness, art, reading, religion, community participation and socialising.

The discussion cards help the facilitator to identify questions that may be useful to explore, eg. What interests make you feel energised?

Why are conversations about interests helpful?

• To help someone discover or re-discover their passions in life
• To find activities intrinsically and that the person finds energising
• To assist a person to set meaningful goals
• To consider ways in which a person can connect with other people or communities
• To find out more about a person and develop a rapport
• To ensure people are genuinely interested as opposed to going along with things others are interested in
• To consider how people use their interests for their happiness, health and wellbeing
• To examine the balance of interests with a person
• To reflect on how interests are prioritised in daily life
